We have the go-ahead to do some work on the Signal Hill exit tracks, and design new sections!

Be there this Saturday 14th to lend a hand and share your ideas for what type of tracks you want.

We meet at the carpark at Logan Park High School at 10am.

The plan: To develop 2 new exit tracks off the hill, and to spread a gravel path across the last part of the 4WD road that has been a large muddy patch up until now - so people have a defined path through the recent earthworks.

Equipment: We’ll have a tracked barrow and loader and compactor for people to play with. Bring rakes/shovels and a wheelbarrow if you have them. Otherwise just bring yourself and some water/snacks.
'
The school are fully supportive of us track building and of continued MTB access through their grounds. But they want to stop the damage to their new grass and recently planted shrubs. So the key message to spread amongst riders is:

DON'T RIDE DOWN THE FRESHLY GRASSED BANKS.

ALWAYS USE THE MTB EXIT PATH BETWEEN THE TOP FIELDS (THAT BYPASSES THE SCHOOL AND EXITS AT THE CAR PARK.)

Lets get Signal Hill cranking! See you there!
Any queries, give me a call on 027 2778408

We had a really good session on Saturday, with about 20 people turning
up to help - twice as many people as we were expecting. Cheers everyone! (Some pics below).

We only discovered at a meeting the day before that we were allowed to build the main DH exit track on the open face of the hill above the earth works, so we couldn't get straight into building as we had to design it first! This meant a bit of standing around and thinking but at least everyone had a say in the design! We are now planning on the best time to get a digger and operator up there to create the masterpiece.

We had about 3 groups working on different areas. We laid shingle paths across the top playing field and across the top of the filled area for bikers to make their way down from the 4wd road. We also erected a wire mesh fence at the bottom of the 4WD road as well as one down the side of the bank near the exit of the DH track. Hopefully the fences will stop people riding down the newly sewn grass banks.

We installed a couple of sign posts at the corner of the top playing field so that the MTB signs can be mounted directing riders to take the shingle track that bypasses the school and not ride through the school grounds.

A group of riders started work on the alternative section of track through the trees dropping onto the top field. This section is looking quite steep so the plans are to make an easier route through here as well to cater for riders of different abilities.

Yes, we will have another working party probably in the next 2- 3 weeks to dig in finalised track designs which will be marked out prior to the day. Until then the things to remember are:

-If you want to help out, that's awesome but wait until an official work party, or contact Sheryl or Fin with suggestions.
- All track work must be approved by club representatives. Contacts are Sheryl Macleod 027 2778408, Fin O'Conner 027 6117334 and Hamish Seaton 0274426474.
- Club representatives will consult DCC / Arboretum / School about new
works.
-Working parties will be posted here on Vorb.

Thanks again everyone. It is going to be primo when it's all finished!
Sheryl
