Calendar Event: May 27, 2008
Attendees: Definite(6) - 80% Chance(2) - Total: 8 - Expected: 8 - View

Hi folks,

As you might have read in the latest Spoke Magazine, Simon Kennett is about to head off to North America to compete in the Great Divide Race. Check out his blog:

http://www.greatdividekiwi.blogspot.com/

or a thread on vorb:

http://www.vorb.org.nz/ftopict-72372.html

Prior to his departure, I'm hosting a little shindig to send him off. It will be at Rongotai College's Ballinger Room, on Tuesday 27 May from 7pm.

Simon will have his Great Divide Race rig on display, fully loaded up with the gear he'll be taking. He'll give us a little talk about the what, the how, and most importantly the why, and will tell us a little about the charity which he's supporting Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières

There will be non-alcoholic drinks, and nibbles provided, and if we get bored of listening to Simon, there might be a chance to watch a bit of endurance racing on "the telly" Wink

[edit]We've just heard that Karapoti Classic organiser Michael Jacques has donated 5 free entries to next years Karapoti Classic. We'll collect names, and five will be drawn during the evening to win free entry. If somebody who has already entered Karapoti has their name drawn, they win a Karapoti riding shirt.[/edit]

There's no entry fee, but if you do come, I encourage you to drop a bill or two in Simon's hat. He's hoping to raise US$5,500 which is enough to stock a 10,000 person refugee camp with medical supplies for three months.

I hope to see you there.

Simon's remarkably quick (and so noisy) on the GDR rig. We both got up Makara Rd in under 9 minutes again today. I was on my CRX, and took only about 5-6 seconds out of him. I can't wait to see it fully loaded up.

Maybe we'll need a sweepstake on the fully-laden weight. Oli might have to bring his scales Wink

Nah, it's just that the Stan's Crow tyres hum a lot more than I'm used to on road tyres.

We've just heard that Karapoti Classic organiser Michael Jacques has donated 5 free entries to next years Karapoti Classic.

If you go to the send-off, put your name in a box, 5 names will get drawn during the evening to win free entry. If somebody who has already entered Karapoti has their name drawn, they win a Karapoti riding shirt.

Cheers Michael Smile
