As some of you may be aware, the draft metropolitan sports facilities plan, looking at the development of sports facilities in Christchurch for the next 20 years, is now available.
A copy may be viewed/downloaded at

http://www.ccc.govt.nz/Plans/MetropolitanSportsFacilitiesPlan/

Cycling specific matters are discussed on pages 5 and 34 of the plan.
You will notice that it is a Priority 1 option to dispose of the Denton Park Velodrome, probably within 5 years, with this site being extensively redeveloped (possibly the SW Christchurch Aquatic Centre, together with extensions to Hornby Mall and access roads).
You will also notice much further down the action list that it is only a Priority 3 option to provide an outdoor minimum standard fit for "local use" cycling velodrome (probably akin to something like Mosgiel) - location and cost not specified.
Canterbury Centre is still pursuing strongly an indoor velodrome and is currently preparing a written submission to CCC, having already had several one on one meetings with council members since the draft plan was made public
You will also note on the link above, that there is the ability for members of the public to submit their point of view regarding the draft plan, and the club considers it vital that as many members of the club, whether they be trackies or not, take the opportunity to have their say.
Please take a few moments to read the relevant sections of the draft plan, and make your views known.

Regards

{Posted via mobile.vorb.org.nz} Good work. It could be worth talking to Cycling Southland about what they have done (although, I am guessing that you are all over it).

An indoor velodrome needs a lot of use to justify it and the ILT Velodrome is only used a small portion of the time by top riders.

Fergie, in order to make it easy for people, you could whip up a quick submission, post it as a PDF and get people to print, sign and post it to the council.

That way you will get a bunch of submissions in favour of.

Here, use this one I prepared earlier:

Dear Mr Mayor,

I think any new Velodrome should have some jumps 'n stuff. Maybe it should be shaped like a giant corkscrew and then you could do some MAD HUXX!!! AU!?!?!? instead of just sitting there grinding away like a Catholic Priest on a Choirboy. It would be cool like supercross, and you could have a madcore punkmetal band and skantily clad girls 'n stuff!!!

Cheers Bro!

There is a track in Belgium with a BMX track in the infield. Would be an ideal combination. I could coach my trackies at the same time as my downhill riders. In winter you could run cyclo cross events utilising the tunnel. Several US tracks do that in winter.
