Calendar Event: May 14, 2008

There is heaps of extreme mountain biking from Canada and the US at this year's Banff Film Festival in Auckland for one night only - You won't see these films anywhere else!

The New Zealand Alpine Club presents the:

Banff Film Festival World Tour 2008

Adventure sport film festival comes to Auckland for one night only!

The world’s best and latest adventure and extreme sport documentaries will be showcased at SKYCITY Theatre on Wednesday 14 May 2008, 7.30 pm by the New Zealand Alpine Club.

The films all formed part of this year’s Banff Film Festival, the Canadian mountain resort’s world famous mountain film festival.

This is a rare opportunity for Aucklanders to come and experience real life adventure on the big screen. It is the next best thing to doing it for real, but with the certainty of staying warm and dry, and without the risk of injury.

The films cover a wide range of exploits - extreme mountain biking on a unicycle – featuring trails that would be impressive on two wheels, powder skiing off vertical slabs, ice climbing in abandoned Norwegian mines, cliff rock climbing high above azure Greek waters – without any ropes, base jumping off some unbelievable peaks, and kayaking down the raging torrents of Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean.

This event always sells out and organisers can’t guarantee that there will be any door sales, so they recommend that people purchase tickets in advance.

The Banff Film Festival in Auckland is presented by New Zealand Alpine Club, one of only a handful of organisations worldwide that is offered the Banff films to show in their countries as part of the Banff World Tour.

The Auckland Section of the New Zealand Alpine Club enables people to participate in mountaineering and rock climbing courses and trips and has alpine safety gear such as avalanche transceivers, helmets and harnesses for hire. To find out more about our trips and courses please go to www.aucklandclimber.org.nz

Tickets are priced at $20 and can be purchased from:
