Congratulations to the finalists and everyone who entered the competition. We're aiming to make this an annual event to help get profile and support for up and coming riders in New Zealand. Thank you to the judges who took the time and effort to look over the videos and give us their valued opinions.
And a huge thanks to SRAM who've put up $4,000 worth of gear to help support up and coming riders. You rock
1st. JOSEPH NATION: WINS NZ$2,000 SRAM SCHOLARSHIP
Brett Frew: Blasting fast cornering and creative lines on tracks make this rider a stand out also. He has a smoothness that takes the bumps and corners so well its very cool to watch.
Cam Cole: Pinner what more can you say. He was hanging it out lots and looks comfy on his bike. Put lots of effort into his product by going to different locations. Epic! Character shines through in film also.
Gabby Malloy: Joseph's riding wanted to make me go out riding the most so he gets number one spot. He really looks like he loves riding and it comes through in his style. He is relaxed, confident and effortless and the bike works for him. I liked his raw, aggressive style and although he was pretty loose in places, he looked to still be holding good speed.
Justin Leov: The riding he displayed was very impressive, good speed and he is having fun on the bike.
Paul Needham: (really close) Really smooth, fast, aggressive, awesome drifting, good bike control, excellent hardtail rider, did I already mention fast? Great dh style , really good to watch. Excellent riding!
Vanessa Quin: The amount of different places these guys filmed was awesome! I thought Joseph really showed what a good fluid rider looks like, also showed good pedaling style on a downhill bike and by the looks he is not afraid to take a crash or two!
2nd. LOUIS HAMILTON: WINS NZ$1,000 SRAM SCHOLARSHIP Brett Frew: Fast flowing jumping style and smoothness were my favourites here. This guy is amazingly controlled for a young rider and mixed up lot of different skill in this vid.well sideways but fully under control.
Cam Cole: Looks like there is good potential and cool looking rider. Pinned on the Rotorua Nats course especially down the chutes.
Gabby Malloy: It is mint to see Louis' riding on film, the kid is a pinner in anyones terms. He is smooth and controlled and does sick whips.
Justin Leov: He's got the Rotorua track pretty dialled in. I liked the way Louis carried his speed as well as having fun on the jumps. Smooth and good line choice.
Paul Needham: Super close competition almost 1st, super smooth + flowing, good control, especially in the air, great style, really fast, enjoyable to watch ride. I can't believe a rider so young riding so solid and confident. You really impressed me, your riding is amazing!
Vanessa Quin: The kid can ride. At only 13 his style is already there along with his speed in the downhill, watch this space is all I can say...
Brett Frew: His riding is smooth with large jumps and tricks, its the type of riding I like to watch, different skills put into a short vid. This is the rider I wanted to see more from the most.
Gabby Malloy: Although this was mainly jumping, it is super tidy and nice to watch. Perfect back flip and tidy through the mini dream which can be hard to get smooth.
Justin Leov: Great jumping skills thats for sure! Looked a little tense in the forest.
Paul Needham: Really awesome bike control, polished, smooth+ flowing. Excellent air control. 10 out of 10 for the massive no-hander, and flip. Good 360 too.
Vanessa Quin: I liked how this was all filmed in a day and it showed Karl is super talented in the trails and on the big stuff at the dream track. He has a really smooth style.
Cam Cole: Cool style on the film. Looks like he has fun on his bike and rips all round on his bike.
Justin Leov: It was hard between James , Karl and Tom. James gets 3rd because of his all round bike handling skills. He's good on his DH bike and flows well on the slalom track. The dirt jumping section did it for me, super smooth!
Paul Needham: Good skills, great riding style, good bike control, good air skills too! Your riding is really good man!
Vanessa Quin: I want to visit your local trails for sure next year they look like so much fun.
Brett Frew: Oliver is a great rider with a broad range of skills from nice manuals to transfer lines. Really creative and I want to see more from a guy who rips like that.
Cam Cole: Sick rider with very good skill. .Lots of potential for NZ street and dirt mountainbiking.
Vanessa Quin: This video showed how versatile Oliver is all all kinds of riding, street, dirt and skate park.
Gabby Malloy: Tom looks great and I was impressed at how little his feet are coming off the pegs. Upright, balanced and smooth.
Justin Leov: Great skills for a super young kid, will only get faster as he grows a bit more.
Paul Needham: Another really good rider, great to have so many good riders in our country, your riding is really smooth. Easy to watch, good bike handling skills, quite fast and tidy, your smoothness was the best thing I liked about your riding, keep up the good riding dude!
Vanessa Quin: Another little pinner in the making. He has a really good downhilling style over the rough stuff.
Brett Frew: Very smooth riding and fast cornering combined with confident jumping makes Simon good to watch.Looks like he has a lot of fun in the hills flavouring up his jumping nicely with whips.
Gabby Malloy: Simon was the most technically correct and it is cool to see, everything about his style is textbook. Nice corners!
Vanessa Quin: Simon you have a smooth effortless riding style and I loved the way your video was cut.
Cam Cole: Pinned rider looks sick on the film get some swap ons and holds it open all the time, big ups. Good to see Bluff DH!
Vanessa Quin: (see comments her about Simon) Adrian same to you and whatever track you were on near Invercargill, I want to go there too...it looked like something you see in Aussie...your video especially made me want to go downhilling because I could hear the noise of the bike over the music!

If you're the bloke who shot the genius winning vid in 2007, that is high praise.
It's a fantastic piece of work - I've been making tv shows, corporate dvds and commercials for 25 years, now, and was dead envious when I saw it.
Looking forward to vid comp winners.
