Calendar Event: April 26, 2008  The inaugural, 125km of NZ’s longest MTBing circumnavigation of Lake Hawea, near Wanaka. The South Island’s mountain biking equivalent of the Lake Taupo road race. Be the first to MTB through this iconic area. Enjoy the remoteness and wilderness of this event. If you are ready to raise the bar then this event is for you. Whether you want to race hard or just take on the challenge and adventure of completing this event, you won’t be disappointed.

Recon it would be not much single track and LOADS of road (gravel & tar). Suit a roadie more than a MTBer in my opinion.
Good on the organisers for getting permission though - that top bit (Hunter) is pretty private eh. I'd take my fishing rod with me - great fishing up there

They had an article on TV1 news and looked a primo day. Think Marcus Roy won in <5 hours.

Yeah I did it. What a hctib of a track!! Crossing a waist deep river was a bit fun. Feet were numb for the first 4 hours of the race.
I did 7.03 which was better than my target of 8 hours. Was the first race I've ever been in so wasn't too bad. Came off on a downhill doing 35ish at the 40km mark and grazed up nicely. Prob cost me 30 mins or so. Knees and hip were a bit tender after that. Will prob be back next year, definately need to get a soft tail!!
