Calendar Event: April 17, 2008

April 17th, 2008

[CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD DOWNHILL RESULTS]

It was an amazingly wet day and so the course was shortened to just the exit trail so we had a chance of getting some transport up the access road. The forest roads and trails were rivers of water with some major scouring going on. This gave the cross country bikes a bit of an advantage as the Exit track is not particularly steep or technical. Waiariki MTB squad member Carl Jones tied for the win with Alex Snodgrass from Massey Wellington, Carl was pretty stoked with this after winning the XC yesterday on a new course. Local rider & Massey Palmy student Matt Stulen snagged third place on his DH bike. In the ladies XC racer Katie O’Neil (Canterbury) pulled the win from Carrie MacLachlan (Auckland) and Kathryn Campbell (Victoria). Katie was happy to pick up the win after local rider Monique Avery ran away with the XC race yesterday. Full XC results should be available later tonight.

It was the wettest race we’ve ever had to run, so thanks to the marshals who stood out in the rain for a couple of hours this morning! Let’s hope next time unigames comes to Rotorua we can turn on some fine weather.

Nowhere else it could've been run sadly. Not in rain like that.

it was a complete disappointment really and waste of money, You can't call it a downhill race when there is just as much uphill as there is downhill Sad and where XC riders have a large advantage

Oh well, at lest VIC took out university games overall :thumbups:

Such is racing - you don't always get to choose (we could have simply cancelled the DH full stop, if you'd preferred?). I'm sure you got your money's worth from the Uni Games experience in general.

Nah he wasn't wearing his lyca so that doesn't apply, I'd rather just drink more Jim Beam, that should solve all of the problems Big Grin

Man took me 4 hours today ripping my bike apart and re greasing and servicing my bike, still got front wheel and forks to go Crazy

Actually our whole experience was a mess with having to change accommodation etc but in general it was alright. Was it not at all possible to get some 4 wheel drives and go to the top? we pushed up the other day and it would have seemed possible since the push wasn't too hard. I would have been willing to pay a little extra to get a full DH run in. I understand where you are coming from and i spos you would have explored every possible situation, and would like to thank everyone for running it, and making it possible

I have only had 2 pies this entire year but maybe my refusing to wear lycra is what is slowing me down Oooooooh

geting people to flog their 4wd's and the clutches towing bunches of muddy, drunken/hunogver uni students, is surprisingly difficult, nor cheap

We would have 4wd'd if possible Baz - but the rain (especially on the day!) would have meant the road was destroyed - not just for that run, but all other users, in what's a working forest.

As for lycra slowin you down? There was a DH rider who messed his race run up badly at a World Champs I was at because he'd done all his practice runs in baggies (to be down with the boys), but kept over shooting / misgauging his landings etc in his race run, so much faster was his skin suit.
