 |
|
We couldn't have asked for better conditions for the first round of Wellington's inaugural XC short track series!
A HUGE thank you to everyone who came out. We raised $400 today!!! I had a whole heap of fun watching and it looked like you guys were having fun too. Special thanks to the spectators - short track is a great spectator sport (especially thanks to Ricky) and it was great to have lots of friends, partners, parents, kids and dogs out there making noise along with the riders. Also thanks to Ricky for designing the course and helping make the idea of the series a reality, Marco from PNP for the use of so much great equipment, Shane for the use of the ezi-ups and track clearing, Wellington City Council for giving us permission to use the land and Bicycle, IO and Santa Cruz for their ongoing support.
And a big apology from me for forgetting (!) to do the spot prizes. All the more reason to come out to rounds 2 and 3 as there will be extra spotties now!
We had a good turnout today and well done to the girls making up over a quarter of the total field today!
Results are (top 3 only):
A Grade
Ricky Pincott
Johnny Waghorn
Rob Kilvington
B Grade
Clive Bennett
Marco Renall
Ben Conway [edited for accuracy!]
C/D Grade
Troy Peek
Richard Hoskin
(other riders lapped - and you thought nothing could go wrong on a SS)
Women
Celia Lie
Kathryn Campbell
Jude Young
Granny Gear
Ben Conway
Gavin McCarthy
Ricky Pincott
Big Gear
Ricky Pincott
Marco Renall
Clive Bennett
Random Relay
12 riders entered the relay and 4 teams of 3 were selected at random. The winning team was Rob Kilvington, Ben Conway and Peter Moore
After round 2, series leaders will be listed.
Well done to everyone and a huge thanks for all your support! Never again will you say 'bah, it's only 8 minutes!'. Round 2 is at Wainui MTB Park (Waiu St) on 4 May. Hope to see you there.
Lisa

Sounds like a great event. Well done to the organisers for making it happen.
I'd like to think I can make it to the next one.

Chris wasn't lapped. There were a couple who were in that race, but he wasn't one of them.

I would check that - I am sure he was behind me (and I was behind Ben)
Anywho - it was a whole lotta fun, I'll definitely be at the next one!

Yip - agreed with Pete, and Chris (Walters) said afterwards that he was lapped with a lap to go.
Anyways, it was all in good fun!
I feel it is the only time you will see this:
1st Ben Conway
2nd Gavin McCarthy
3rd Ricky Pincott
Bwahahahaha

I just spoke to Chris - he said he was lapped during the winners final lap, and rolled across the line in what would have looked like 3rd place (but he was a lap down).
Confuzzlement solved!

Cheers Lisa
I had a funny feeling Ricky was talking to me when he said "pass that guy in blue and you'll be in third!" (seeing as there was a guy in blue ahead of me at the time.
Thanks again for organising everything - I can't make the next one to defend my ridiculous spinning title - but will be at the final round for sure

Although..... After clicking through SO many photos of Ricky clearing that log, I was a bit disappointed not to see one of his wee incident
