CROSS COUNTRY SHORT TRACK COMES TO WELLINGTON!

Lisa Morgan and Ricky Pincott are running a fund raising 3 race short track series starting Sunday 13 April in Karori Park. There will be up to 5 grades for the 'serious' races, and 3 additional events open to all-comers with a real emphasis on fun!

Dates and Locations:

Round 1: 13 April, Karori Park (back end of park)
Round 2: 4 May, Wainuiomata MTB Park (Waiu St)
Round 3: 18 May, Belmont Regional Park (meet Stratton St carpark)

All events: register from 9am, briefing at 9:50am, races start at 10am.

Format

Races are on a short course (approx 1 minute 30 sec to complete a lap) and are pulled if lapped by the race leader. Riders race for a set time plus a specified number of laps which will increase for each grade through the series, ranging from 8 minutes plus 2 laps to 15 minutes plus 3 laps depending on grade.

Points

Points will be awarded to the top 3 riders in each race and added to determine series winners for each grade.

Prizes

Merit prizes for grade series winners and spot prizes.

Fun races

Each round will include 3 fun races that all riders are welcome to enter, covered in the entry fee. Formats are: One lap granny gear race (must be a true granny gear – no double chain-rings or SSs!); One lap big gear race; 'Random relay' – random selection of team members, one lap each team member.

Grades

A (elite), B (expert), C (recreational), D (novice), W (women). Organisers reserve the right to 'encourage' riders to enter an appropriate grade (no burglars!). Women may enter in grades A-D if they wish.

This is a fund raising event. Entry fees will go towards assisting club members (mtb) to race overseas. The primary recipient from funds raised in this series is Lisa Morgan who will race in the USA and Canada, June to August 2008. Find out more about Lisa at www.lisamorgan.blog.com.

Great to see some excitement Smile This came about because I wanted to do something a bit different for fund raising, and Ricky was developing a similar idea inside his wee head already. After the short track at Oce's I was sold! Honestly the most fun I have ever had on a bike.

The 'fun' single lap race ideas we got in Rotorua from the dirt crits Ricky and Gav joined in on. The granny gear race had us in hysterics so we had to share that! When I was at the bmx track the other day with Rita, Zoe and a couple of others we did a granny gear lap and it was hilarious.

These events are suitable for absolutely anyone. If it all goes to cusdrat you get to pull out within metres of the start/finish no matter where you are on the course Smile

I hope everyone enjoys.
