due to change in ownership of a section of farm land on the te araroa trail (from Mahoe rd to the start of the single track), this section has been closed for all users except walkers (as these are the only users that the farmer can't stop with out doing the hard yards and building a new track for them).

this track is the one that we took the guys from Spoke Magazine down

the only way to do this track now (with out upsetting the farmer to much) is to walk your bike across the farm land (4km) then start riding as soon as you cross over into doc land

if we can't come to an agreement with the farmer there is a possible line for a new track (apparently it is all ready a rough horse/goat track) through the scrub and bush that is across the boundary fence running parallel to the farm track.

so yeah at the moment it would probably be best if the usage of this section of the te araroa trail is reduced until either the farmer agrees to allow the public to cross his farm land or the neighboring land owners give the go-ahead to build a track on their side of the boundary fence

Cheers Kieran Chandler

nah its just that allowing walkers across the land along the te araroa trail was part of the sale agreement or something and mtbrs and horse riders weren't included then when the new owner got on the phone to who ever manages the te araroa trail he was told that the track was already there etc..

hopefully we'll find out what the other neighbours reakon and weather it's sweet to have a track though the scrub on the their place or not tonight

neighbour says it's all sweet to go down his side of the boundary but he wants people to give him a ring first Double Thumbs Up

may require some track building though Sad

but the good thing is the tracks that will be built will be single tracks Smile and we can still ride down the the origional single track part of the te araroa trail Smile

might try and get up there for a scout soonish to see what work needs to be done, who know it could just need a slasher and a spade in a few places

untill that is completed a bit of ninja biking could be done along either side of the boundary or something, but yeah would probably be easier to just not try and ride it untill it's completed.

i'll post up on here when it's finished Double Thumbs Up

and if any vorbers are keen to help do some digging just give me a shout and we'll organise a working bee Smile

haha, I took a guy for a ride out there on friday, he was really keen to do something a bit more technical than the 6ft tracks we opened up as he had a keewee stealth set up for dh. so i managed to talk him into going for a hike 'n' bike up the te araroa trail. I haven't been for a walk up there since when i was 11 (because it was so slipery and not fun, and if we wanted to ride down it we would have ridden up the road, then down through the farm). we didn't make it to the top of the single track, but we did manage to get to just about the top of the clay track.

the good news was though that he thought that the down hill was worth every drop of sweat from the tramp up Double Thumbs Up he wasn't in a very fit condition either and finished the ride looking like he had just done the karapoti(or a similar event that drains all your energy). but the main thing is that he enjoyed it despite how unfit he was.

so if any vorbers are keen to go for a push up the te araroa trail, so you can ride up it, give me a shout and I will happily join you Double Thumbs Up

when i rode with this guy we were averaging like 7km/h while we were riding over the 20km. this doesn't take into account the hills that we walked up, so realy as long as you are only slightly fit, you will be able to get up there easy Smile

oh yeah, we still haven't gone for a walk to scope out how hard it will be to build a new track from the top of the road. we were thinking of doing it this afternoon, but going for a ride on some tramping tracks sounded like a more fun idea Blush
