We've had a Can-O-worms for about 6 months. It's slow to get going until worm numbers have increased, but it seems to work well once there are more wrigglers. I think they're good for anyone with little outdoor space. Otherwise, the best way to compost is to make a 1mx1m frame using roughsawn 150x50mm treated timber. Cut a slot of about 40mm depth that's 55mm wide and about 50mm in from each end (so each timber length can slot into the one below. That way you can build it up as it fills + the gaps allow it to aerate. The best compost is made by layering different stuff i.e. kitchen waste/grass clippings/hedge clippings/newspaper/straw or hay if you can get it.
We stick a piece of corrugated iron over the top to keep out the rain.
Another good thing to do is get a 40gallon drum or plastic barrel, fill with water, some seaweed and fish sauce, then stick all your weeds into that. It kills the weeds and makes fantastic liquid fertiliser. If you're plagued with wandering jew or some other very invasive weed this is the best way to kill it.

Yep. All weeds will die if put into a dark water-filled bin, as it causes plant matter to rot.
My father, who is a bit of a gardening guru, even suggests to put a bit of leftover fish into it - as long as you can put up with the smell.
