Does anyone know if it's possible to bike up Mt Firth from the end of Bucks Rd (runs off Underhill Rd) and then hang a left to hit the downhill of the pylon track? This would be a great route as it would be possible to start and finish in Featherston.
This link will show you where I mean
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&time=&date=&ttype=&q=bublahblahblah
There's a vehicle track there according to the map (Carterton S26 1:50,000) but I'd love to know if anyone has attempted it.
Cheers,
Yeti

Well I went to the end of Bucks Rd and took the hard left track up the hill. I reckon I got about 2 km in, but it's steep and I was on my single speed so tough - lots of walking and I ran out of sun light. I reckon I was about a km or two away from the ridge line which you'd hope is a little clearer. All up I think it would probably take about 4 hours to do the round trip. I'd recommend parking in Featherston and cycling the metal road for security more than anything else.
If any one does this, take shin guards as the gorse is pretty mean. My legs are shredded.
I'm going to add this to the list of to do rides.
