Thanks. And don't you be doing any hydrosliding in your SPD's, there's other ways to have fun and still stay on the bike! Double Thumbs Up

If I have my new bike by then I might even race this.

Will there be OTD entries?

Put me down as a likely candidate for casual help on the day(s), unless some sort of emergency occurs (I'll confirm with you Mike closer to the date). I don't have a car license, so no driving for me, but I'm happy to help out with whatever needs doing on the day.

We want to see your photos of the event from both the practice and race days and to get you keen we’re going to give away a Transition Seat to the best jump photo and Transition Pedals to best overall photo. If you’re a marshal or volunteer and you win, you may get something extra (we’re working on that).

You can be a spectator or a marshal – (even better!!) We want your photos

If you would like to help out with the race contact Mikeandlouise[at]paradise.net.nz

Competition Rules

1. To enter, all photos must be uploaded here http://www.vorb.org.nz/photos-album-2515.html
2. You must be a member of Vorb to enter.
3. People can enter as many photos as they wish
4. Only simple software edits are allowed on each photo, ie cropping, resizing, saturation, colour, brightness/ darkness etc
5. Submitted photos must be the entrant’s own photo
6. People can enter photos from either practice or race days.
7. All photos to be eligible for the competition must be submitted before midnight 7th November.
8. From the 8th – 17th November the voting will start, at first the best 4 will be chosen in each category by a panel of 4 judges, then the best of the 4 will be chosen in each category to win the prizes. Winners will be notified after this period.
9. The Judges decision is final.
10. The Winner of the Best Jump Photo won’t be the same person as the Winner of the Best Overall Photo.
11. The Judges and people running this competition cannot enter.

Some Hints

1. Composition of the shot is important, stick the rider against a good background. The photo should tell a small story of what they are doing.
2. Make sure the subject is in focus and is the focus of the shot. You can do this by choosing a fast shutter speed if your camera allows for this.
3. Another trick is to ‘pan’ the camera with the rider, this captures the subject in focus and blurs the background; this can create an illusion of speed.
4. Don’t be afraid to snap off large amounts of photos, even if there are some bad ones in there, there are always good ones too.
5. Think outside the square, look for different angles, ways of capturing your subject
6. Previous photos from 2006 Wellington Downhill series can be found here http://www.vorb.org.nz/photos-album-1368.html
