Vorb has teamed up with Essence Bicycle and their Bespoke custom builds to bring you the prize of your riding life. There really is no catch, one of you will win up to $5,500 of custom Cotic.

ABOUT BESPOKE
The 'bespoke' service from Essence Bicycle lets you build your Cotic just how you want it.

You can either start with one of our 'core build' packages, then change or delete any part to really make the bike your own, or just give us a budget and talk to us about your riding needs and your preferences in components. We’ll do the work of putting the bike spec together and you just need to concentrate on selecting the stuff that is really important to you - it might be every last part, it might just be a particular saddle and tyres you want. But you always have the final say over components.

Not everyone wants a full bike build. You might only want a frame and a few parts because you are sourcing some parts yourself, or you are upgrading from a previous bike and swapping some stuff over. No problem - we can supply just what you need, from a frame only to a full bike. Our builds come out at prices that will pleasantly surprise you. And you have flexibility of choice and end up with a personally specced bike with no hidden costs, all handbuilt and finished with the attention to detail you’d expect from a bespoke builder.

HOW TO ENTER
(Watch out for the things in red, this is the stuff you have to do to have a chance to win the bike).

Firstly think about the riding you do, or the riding you want to do, and choose the Cotic frame that hits the mark. Maybe you want a freeriding Bfe, or a singlespeed Simple for thrashing around Rotorua, or even a Roadrat setup for touring with racks and luggage or as a fixed wheel commuter. You need to tell us what the bike will be used for, and why.

Then you need to add everything you need to build it into your dream bike (as long as your dreams don’t exceed $5,500). Think carefully. You will have to compromise - do you spend the money on a fork and downgrade the drivetrain, or go for lovely wheels and lose out on the seatpost and stem and finishing kit? You can go into as much detail as you like, with a Cotic you can even choose the downtube decal. You must spec a full bike, and you must convince us that you have put some thought into the spec. List your parts and tell us why you have chosen them and where the compromises are - justify your choices.

Of course, you will find out that creating a build from scratch takes a little time and effort (you didn’t think we’d just give away a bike did you?). If you are like me, you might enjoy it!

Finally you need to keep the bike spec within the $5,500 budget. This means the combined retail price on the frame, fork and all parts should not exceed NZ$5,500. If you're unsure about the retail price of something check with your local bike store or a legitimate online store.

Here’s some help for you:
Check out www.essencebicycle.co.nz for more about Cotic, bespoke and for sample builds for each of the frames.
Check out www.cotic.co.uk for loads more about the frames.
Check out this Vorb discussion thread to get more info and to ask Paul at Essence anything you like about the competition or get help creating your spec.

WINNING
Entries close Friday 23 November 7pm. Here’s how they’ll be judged:
1. Weedle out the entries that don’t meet the entry criteria listed here.
2. A group of Cotic owners will choose their top half dozen entries - those that really light fires. This will be done blind: no names, nothing but the submission will be seen.
3. The final winner will be selected from the top ten by Cy Turner: owner and designer of Cotic frames. Which build really floats his boat?

The winner will get his/her bike spec confirmed by Essence Bicycle, and we’ll set about building the bike. This will be PXT blogged on Vorb so you can watch the bike taking shape.

Once delivered, the winner will have to give monthly updates for six months - these will be posted to Vorb. What have you ridden, and has the bike worked as you expected - what would you change (or have you changed)?

Note: by entering this competition, you agree to have your details saved by Essence Bicycle, and may be contacted after the competition closes for marketing purposes. All entrants have the option to opt out of further contact after the initial contact.

Get planning - and good luck!

Before we start can we have confirmation on price of the "Hemlock" frame pls?

Ta Smile

Unfortunately I won't be getting the Hemlock until Jan/Feb next year. I'm hoping for Jan, but nothing is that confirmed yet. I have a reasonable idea of the price, but there are alot of 'depends on...' at this stage (rear shock sourcing etc.).

Should have made it clear in the blurb, this competition is based around the hardtails only. You'd really have to compromise the spec to fit a Hemlock in there.

Aha! Nice researching. If a few things fall into place it won't be anywhere near a straight conversion of UK prices for the Hemlock, it'll be a fair bit nicer than that.
