 |
|
Anyone tried this ride from the Kennett's book recently?
I'm planning to give it a whirl on the afternoon of 8 September, leaving Waipu Cove about 1pm I guess.
Any tips or companions welcome.
[Edit] Seems it's closed and/or just plain dodgy. Any other rides in that area? [/edit]

How much more warning do you want!? I'm not riding until 8 September!

track currently closed, due to just finished logging operations, and roads no longer where they are on maps etc, as well as lots of storm damage.
majority is on loggin roads - and 'open' to the public etc, so feel free to ride etc. but be warned, there is no certainty that following a map will get you to where you want to go, or that roads are still passable.

Cheers. Are there any other rides in that area? Kennett_book says no.
We're in Mangawhai for the weekend and while the golfers golf, I was gonna ride. I'll drive back to Woodhill if I have to but wanted to check out the local rides, if any.

Otherwise its either quite a ways north (40mins - hour) for the Papakauri - Punuruks loop (in the guide book I think?), or hooking up with locals to explore the forestry.
work is being undertaken to open the brynderwyns up again, but storm damage in areas where the tracks are currently open is taking priority for DOC at the moment. IE, the places the most people use and there is the most potential for harm are getting the attention first. It could be that they are all up and running with new signage by when you want to ride
And if they are, I would be keen to cycle them myself

Whangarei is closer than Woodhill so I guess I'm heading north!
[edit] Just been scoping the trail pics and info on Vorb for Parahaki - looks awesome!!![/edit]

So I didn't have time for Whangerei but did a reckie of the bottom of Brynderwyn Hills track on Saturday 8 September. There were three cars parked at the bottom of the track, all with bike racks/boots/bits etc. Must have been a fair crew up there that day! Was it you? Am interested to know how you went.

wasnt me - still an area I have to explore
loads of locals ride the forests, whether they are technically open or not. Pretty much all forestry opperations close on Sundays, so people do as they please
