Hi.
There is a possibility of new trails opening up around Kaeo in Northland. This could be anything from rolling cross-country, downhill or some of those strange wooden constructions that I always hurt myself on. As Kaeo is located near Kerikeri which already has a range of tourist attractions this could be a great location. The weather is also another advantage as here we are in the middle of winter and the temperatures are still what I regard as very mild (came over from the UK about 9 months ago). There could be some propose made facilities put in place such as a small bike shop, pressure hose and bunk house. There is already a great place to eat called The Saddlery which serves all day big fried breakfasts and good coffee (I have been trying them out over the last couple of weeks). It would appear that there are already quite a few hidden trails known to the locals.

Here is the question. If there were to be some financial investment made and facilities put in place would you all travel up to ride the trails? Coming from the UK I am a lover of Glentress and with its very fast rolling down hill courses which are starting to become known around the world. This would be the type of course I would hope for in the longterm.

Please let me know what you think.

It's a long way out of the way for most, but it's nice part of the country, especially during Summer. I did a bike tour up there in 2001 and rode a bunch of stuff and really enjoyed it. Good luck to you!

{Posted via mobile.vorb.org.nz} The far north has a nice bunch of trails. Whangarei is a damn fine long weekend riding destination, and there is a good weeks road trip to be had round the whole district at the jungle end of the spectrum.

The kennets book drives a lot of bike tourism, but is sparse on detail on the far north. If you were putting in such an area, putting out a guide showing the riding opportunities in the whole district would help. NZ riders are more than happy to travel if they know there is a variety of trails to knock off.

Could you all give me some indication of your interest in such trails as I am hoping to use the responses on this item to show how many people are interested. I may be meeting with a member of the local community at Kaeo to explore the possibilities and your responses would give us both some idea of the potential interest.

So if you view this thread and would be interested in these trails just post a very short "Yes!".

Thanks.
