It is with great sadness that the Wanganui Mountain Bike Club gives a sad farewell to Charles Humphries. On Friday evening Charles passed away.

Any body who has ridden at any club event in Wanganui over the last 3 or 4 years will remember Charles for his great passion, humour and organisational skills when it came to running events. Without him all those trailer days and races simple could not have happened and he will leave a hole that cannot be filled.

Charles, we are all thankful for the time and energy you put into making our sport and club a better place and extend our thoughts to your family.

Charles funeral will be held at 2pm Wednesday at the Holly Family Church, gonville, Wanganui.

We would appreciate any memories or stories you may have of Charles to be posted as a tribute to this man of tireless energy.

Sorry D.K - I'd known about this since Charles went into hospital - but I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be made public.

All my love to his family and friends, he will be sorely missed.

RIP Charles! This will be a sad loss to the club! The races were always run so smoothly and there was never a problem!

As a former committee member of the Wanganui Mountain Bike club I had the privilege of working alongside Charles some 6 or 7 years ago.

What I'll remember about Charles is the way he was quick to throw his support into the behind the scenes aspects of running the club when his son became involved as a rider. He was always obliging with lending tools (including his petrol powered brushcutter) when we needed them for trail building and made a tremendous effort in arranging many trailer days and events.

It's been a number of years since I moved to Wellington but I've always noted over those years the substantial amount of work that Charles had appeared to continue to contribute to the Wanganui Club.

My sincerest condolences to his family and clubmates.

My condolences to his family.

Charles will be sadly missed by the mtb community - a man who made a great contribution to the local scene.

We all know organising the groms (and most people for that matter) at an event is like herding cats, but one thing I noticed is that Charles would just have to say the word and everyone would stop pushing in etc and line up patiently - I think thats a good testament to the amount of respect everyone had for him and everything He'd done...

Sad news! Rest in Peace, Charles - May many others follow in your footsteps and put as much back into the community as you did.
