Posted: Mon 21st Jul 7:55am Post subject: David Best Of Kiwis In Road Race At World Junior Cycling
Auckland rider Tom David was the best of the New Zealanders, finishing in the main peloton in the road race on the final day of the UCI Junior World Championships in Capetown, South Africa today.
David, who was seventh after a strong ride in the time trial two days ago, finishing 32nd in the road race over 136km at Monterrey.
Frenchman Johan LeBon won the sprint just ahead of the pack with David safely in the main bunch to complete an impressive championship.
Emma Petersen, the sole New Zealander in the 87km junior women’s race, finished 51st overall won by Jolien D’Hoore (BEL).
It completes New Zealand’s most successful junior world championships, winning six medals, including four by Levin’s Gemma Dudley.

just to add a bit more, the two that got away were almost joined by Tom on last lap but he couldnt quite get over and was caught by bunch. the leaders held 8-12seconds for the last 6km to finish(down hill)
with 2 laps to go tom, Wade, Mat and patrick were all in main bunch. Mat crashed, Pat popped and wade was last to go on last climb.
Alex rode like alex. whoosh .....boom!!!!
