Scotty - re: passing the cost onto the consumer. Would you be prepared to run a business at a loss?
EG:-When it avaerages out to $2 freight for a 4lt bottle of Oil (and we did buy bulk) we have to pass that onto the consumer, so the truckies are just standing up you Joe Public .....

Trucks are cool. It was quite an impressive site driving past them all to wainui this morning. I wanted to do that toot toot arm thing that kids do to all of them when i drove past. hurr hurr. Feel a bit like a 7 year old boy at the moment!!!
I did that!!!!
Got lotsa toots too as I rode to work.
As I type, theres dowzens and dozens of trucks rolling at a reasonable pace down Cameron Road. I imagine down at the chapel st lights its a very different story. Good on the truckies, good to see someone getting riled up over the amount of Tax the govt. takes. And when the truckies costs go up, so does everyone elses. Who doe you think delivers the Beer for gods sake

The French literally protest about nothing, like the annual mayday protests which are about what?
I'm guessing you, like many people, work an 8 hour day, and have many advantages brought to you as an employee that would not be there if it were not for union protests.
Mayday is to remember the social and economic acheivements of the labour (NOT the labour party per se) movement. Without the formation of the Unions, business, government and others would have mass control of the workers and we would have slave labour conditions.
It ssipes me off how many people these days refuse to join unions to support their actions when they have no idea of the history of the union movement or what it was like in the past. Many of the conditions, hours of work, and other benefits you get today were provided by Union protest and negotition.
By the way, 'may day' has nothing to do with the french. It is about an incident that occured Chicago, Illanois. The first country to institute it as a 'holiday' was Australia in 1856.
Thank you for the history lecture. I've been a member of a union since getting my first real job 15 years ago.
The Paris Mayday protests aren't a march or celebration, they quite often take the form of an almost ceremonial riot which pits anarchists (who are usually students and unemployed not workers)and the riot cops. During the 2 years I lived in France they seemed to be more about picking a fight than celebrating collectivism... But hey what do I know...

This is the first time in a long time that working class NZ has stood up and said "YOU CAN GET DEKCUF"
These guys are standing up for everyone in this country that buys something that is transported by road, so everyone should be appreciative that they are actually doing something, rather than whinging that prices keep going up.
More protest over government action is a good way to voice an opinion.
