Karma, Mojo, whatever you may call it
I'm not talking about the religious aspect of it
But do you believe in it?
Example - Trail building on your day off is good karma
Discuss.

yes... of the instantised version.
We went tramping over Easter. Knew we had to hitch to get back to the car on the monday, so gave a hitchhiker a ride while driving up on the Friday.
Got picked up about 2 mins after popping out of the forest on the monday...
See... instant (hitching) karma!!

of sorts, but generally no.
I think there is such a thing as 'trail karma' - but not some sort of pre determined intention/design sort of thing. more along the lines of - if I'm not nice and build tracks, how can I expect trails to be built? Sort of like a social contract really.
though I also believe 'trail karma' makes me a better rider, through getting to know the trail in great detail, every bump and rock, you get a feel at a level that riding does not allow. I know more about the track, therefore I can ride it better.
So building trails has 2 payoffs for me - i call them 'trail karma', but they really arent 'karma' in the true sense

I believe in Karma but not the magical kind.
If you are nice to others and do good things, this shows in your personality and the way you generally conduct yourself and people respond with kindness accordingly.

That's a good point, you don't need to come up with some supernatural story for why it's good to be altruistic when real things like social obligation do the job.

At the same time, bad tihs happens to good people - so its a pretty lame supernatural theory...

I believe in being conscientiously decent to everyone and if good tihs arises from that then that's awesome, if not, then at least I still have a clear conscience and haven't intentionally screwed anyone or anything around.
I also think niceness perpetuates further niceness.
What would be screwed is if you were being nice or doing nice things involuntarily purely because you believed in a Karma-like concept rather than genuinely being a good c**t.

True, but I've found that good people react in a more positive manner. I.e. as opposed to moaning about it they just get on and solve the problem.
It is said that you make your own luck. Now I don't believe in luck (or karma) but if you're a good person bad things don't seem to have the same impact as they do to bad people. I think it's just a case of rolling with the punches.
