If it became standard business practice to R&D your way to profit we might have a chance.

The standard NZ business practice of have one good idea then cutting costs to give apparent profit growth has been a losing strategy.

International comparisons to whom? Hard for us to compete with a nation where $1 buys you the labour necessary to produce 50 pairs of nike sneakers........ Unless we elect ACT, who will save us all by abolishing minimum wages so that we too may manufacture glorious high-end sneakers for the first-world!

We're not going to increase the number of jobs available or the number of hours worked unless we reduce the price of labour or limit improved workplace conditions. In that case, less-than-maximised productivity is a worthwhile trade for the good working conditions that NZ workers enjoy.
