Hi team. I broke my carbon 2006 mtb. The importers said it was a warrantee so new frame for me. SO one month later they sent me a 2005 front triangle??!??!!? Not happy! The bike shop sent it back requesting the 06 frame. I have now been waiting 5 months. Is this std service for NZ???
Obviously I would be happy with a 08 frame but he line was deleted and replaced with a new model at the end of 06.

Anyone had similar service to this??? I'm wondering at what time I get really shtty. Crazy

On some brands they simply wont have any to give you!
Some may come up at the end of the year when they may get some from overseas to sell here.

I've had 2 bikes get warranty repairs (I tell a lie, one of them I was actually paying for), Both took f*ckloads longer than I was promised Smile

I think of all the people I've dealt with in the NZ bike industry I think they're all knawers (with the exception of 2, who were both great, one legendary Wink)

Yes I understand that you can't pull one from nothing but it seems a bit long to wait. The last frame I broke was a Klein and I had a warrantee (from the US) in about a month, AND Klein were no longer imported into NZ at that stage. Maybe that was just exceptional???

Your warrantee is a service you purchased with the bike from the bike shop. If they don't honor it in a reasonable time ask for a full replacement(equivalent or better) or refund. The bike shop can't blame it on the importer, your agreement is with the shop and you don't deal with the importer.
Cite the consumer guarantees act. 5 months is stupid.

My only warrantee was a shifter and it took under a week and the bike shop was excellent.

I had a crack in the rear of my bike, was replaced by the shop with the wrong colour part and it took 2 years to get a replacement from the distributor and I had to really stick to my guns that I wanted the part in the correct colour for my frame, it just looked odd otherwise.

I dont think the importers or manufacturers really carry spares at all. And if thats the case they should really replace with the current years frame.

i had an 08 keewee stealth needing a new dropout take more than 3 months, in the end i gave up who knows hol long it would have taken otherwise.

i also had a diamond back morning glory needing a frame replacement which took 10weeks because a new frame had to be custom made as they had finished production and hadnt made any spares. the new frame had horrible geometry and was far too short, it was mean for the guy i sold it too because he got a custom made frame that suited a smaller guy, slack of diamond back.

bottom line, dont hold your breath and get out while you can, get your money back and upgrade.

In my experience of my previous job of being resposnerble for all warraties in and out of a very large bike shop in NZ, this woud be a very unusual occurance

are youkeeping in touch with your shop?

Yep ,brought it directly through the importer so I guess they are the ones to get hot at. BikeHQ have been batting for me, which is good as the importer will listen to them me more than me.

If its all still turning to poo do I have to I have to take it to a small claims thing or is there a govt agency who acts with you?

Small Claims court ? costs $25 to have your case heard, however I reckon you should be able to resolve it before it got to that, just make yourself clear, give them 1 more week to rectify the problem, then you expect a full refund or replacement bike current years model if thats all they have, just say no other outcome is acceptable.

Yeah, strong letter should move things along, and putting it in writing will help heaps when you get to small claims.

Sweet, last time it took 9 months to BUY a swingarm from them. I wrote a letter of complaint to them and cc to the international service centre. Got a swing arm within 1 week (go figure). Only thing I felt bad about was that the swingarm had been taken off someone elses new bike- and the cycle of sht service was to be passed onto some other poor bugger.
