I think the short answer is, not in NZ. There are a couple of bmx-specific distributors locally but thats about it.

More riders = more customers = more BMX industry. The specialist BMX shops you see in magazines are in cities that have the population of our entire country.

i know for a fact that theres plenty of riders out there coz i deal with them every day and all as they want is a proper shop with good prices that specialize in bmx , then they wont have to go to dans comp and sites like that!

What may seem like plenty of riders in a regular shop context may very well turn out to be not that many riders willing to actually support and spend money in your BMX shop - especially considering the BMX DIY ethic. Look at the number of customers/turnover in the shop you work in... do you think you'll get those kind of numbers every day, year in year out in a shop that only sells BMX? Do you think all the Dans Comp buyers would be happy to pay the difference to shop locally? If you look at the numbers, it is unrealistic in many cases to be able to do similar pricing.
It would be awesome to have such a shop around, but i would be thinking very very carefully about it if it were my money involved.

cheers for the feed back man ! it is a frustrating issue because there is so much potential for bmx in NZ but we just arnt a big enough country as u were saying , but i still think that a shop will work but will take a lot of preperation and thought!

Also, learning to spell can be handy when entertaining the notion of starting a business this world was built on good grammar after all.

Both are actual stores, Revolution is in CHCH and O2project is in taranaki.
What part of the country are you in??

There is nowhere near enough intrest to sustain a business that is devoted to BMX alone. Even back in the boom days of the 80's stores could not survive.

i honestly think where i am in Auckland a bmx shop would be very popular and i know for a fact that theres a huge bmx market in Auckland , more than enough for one shop of course servicing wouldnt just apply to bmx but all ranges of bikes, but sales would be focused on the bmx industry but not 100%,all parts would be available as well as ,clothes, tools, wheel builds, and much much more services could be run all from the same shop and all the prices would be competitive if not better than all the online stores! ( please dont tell me it's not possible because i know it is possible it just takes time ,money, research ! ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!
