The whole rego argument is a complete bunch of esra. Most cyclists will also own a car that is presumably registered.
Instead of being abused cyclists should be profusely thanked for leaving their car at home and making room for the sort of CRETINS that think using a car as a blunt instrument is acceptable...

Did anyone else read th article in front page of paper today?
About how they are targeting violence in CHCH and then rapping on about trageting cyclings for their crimes and somehow relating the two??!
Targetting those who don't wear helmets, and all the people who run red lights. Put us in real good light!
Also on the edge at the moment its quite funny one of the commentaters had a hit and run and got his ph # and keep calling cos he wont apolgise.
Says that "Two wheels belongs on the footpath don't have a right to the road" And all this! Very scary!!

Absolutely and totally agree.
Along with the Moronic statements I read like "...they should have had better brakes" and "...they obviously weren't following the 2 second rule to go into the back of that car..." etc all that stuff about cyclists not paying rego and somehow being freeloaders that shouldn't be on the road, is the most ridiculous, and non-sensical load of parc I've ever heard considering we pay as much tax as anyone else.
It just a stupid distraction that has nothing whatever to do with some psycho scum-bag taking out 50+ cyclists at once.

I heard the thing on the edge yesterday - wasn't sure what it was at first and next thing the guy starts raving about bikes belonging on the footpath and not the road. What a meat axe!
Attitudes towards cyclists are so bad and I just don't get why. The only reason I can think of is that we are likely scapegoats and targets because we are basically defenceless on the roads. Easier to aim all of their pent up anger and frustration at us than other drivers/pedestrians/motorbikes etc whom I'm sure give them just as much trouble on the roads.

I reckon one of the things is jealousy and guilt. Deep down inside your overweight sweaty 40 year old car driver doesn't like to be reminded of the fit, cut athlete that they should be. They don't like to be reminded that they shouldn't be driving little Johnny 500m to school then driving 4km to work when it would be faster, cheaper, cleaner, greener to walk or ride. Which they know they could do, but are too weak (deep down inside) to do. Jealousy and guilt = irrational anger. Cnuts.

You might have a valid point here.

or be on a very high horse. . . .
far too easy to label cyclists as 'cut athletes' and car drivers as overweight douchbags than face up to the fact that some cyclists are overweight douchbags who are cnts to motorists. . .
there is evil on both sides

"its not because youre a huge nerd, its because theyre jealous"

The important thing here is it certainly looks like a guy deliberately tried to injure a bunch of cyclists.
Any possible reasons why Do Not Matter... it can hardly be seen as a provoked assault.
The press ( not the public, what voice do they have?) outcry however may well have been different if, say, a huge truck " brake tested" 20 or 30 cars and left many battered injured or bruised..

Not really he has only been charged with leaving the scene of an accident.
NOT grevious bodily harm,or attempted murder ect.
The class action that is going to be up side his head will leave scars though.
