And there is the problem of using a GIH for a gearbox, it makes the bike to wide.

Theres plenty of fully's that aren't much narrower than that. One advantage I can see with the largeish surface area is the ability to be able to control the bike with your legs somewhat abnd not have a pointy pointy jabbing you in the leg. I used to finish races on my keewee with bruises around the inside of my knees from the linkage plates bashing them

From the pics its way wider than a Keewee. Also the twin top tubes stay wide for a long time. Back when I was a kid and riding BMXs (the only time you should ride a BMX) I had a Torker and I used to beat up my knees on that as it had twin top tubes.

I believe the guys wanting to use a gearbox need to come up with a better way of doing it before it will take off. Maybe the mech in a box system could be better or a geared hub in the BB?
