Inflation, recession blah blah blah get over it! there is nothing else we can do, oh wait yes we can, how about we stop sending our $ overseas and buy NZ made.
i.e. stop buying bikes or bring back KeeWee (oh god)
KeeWee :shudder:
interesting point on NZ made bikes, at what point does the cost of manufacturing offshore become more than on-shore? This is assuming offshore inflation rates are higher than NZ rates.

Cows are in on it too, making ever greater demands that farmers have no alternative but to agree to which explains the rising cost of butter and milk.
It's the workers fault!
don't forget about the sheep, who are to blame for the high cost of merino riding tops. do they think they're something better? maybe they're annoyed they didn't get away so well in Orwell's Animal Farm?
Yes, the sheep are better! Would you prefer to ride your bike in merino or leather? Ahhh, don't answer that.

My frame weighs less than 2 kgs. At $6,000 per ton the raw materials cost $12.00. It might have more of an impact on the the 20kg Warehouse bikes.
after all that pointless belly-aching it occured to somebody to spend 10 seconds and do the math (I never thought about dat, I like jumping on bellyaching band-wagons though)

I think eventually ie 5 years time, volumes of sales of bikes will be sufficient to bring down costs for mainstream types of bikes.. someone mentioned that pedal bikes are very expensive compared to a motorbike when looking at the amount of metal in them, but then they don't make 4 or 5 different size motorbikes for different size riders!
I think longevity is something theat could be improved, how long does a aluminium frame last? bring back cro-moly I say... how long do carbon frames last??
We should be looking not just at the replacement cost of a bike, but how long does the frame and components last.

You don't need to "bring back" cro-moly, you just have to go looking for it (or alternatives).
