My philosophy is that even if global warming isn't being increased by human CO2 (or other) emissions, it's got to be good for us to put less of the parc in the atmosphere to begin with...

Exactly. Reducing CO2 emissions mean burning less oil.
Leaving aside any argument about whether it is running out or not, oil is at an all time price high. And as our country is a net oil importer, it can only be good for the economy to figure out ways to do business while using less of it.

By "work" I mean stitch a new set of elbow pads on my cardigan and smoke my pipe while thinking about Heideggerian disenfranchisement of voles.

I really dont care that much and have much the same thoughts as Jono, but what I am worried about is politicians imposing measures on us to curb CO2.
Even greenpeace is saying its not going to actually help at all, all we get out of it is higher interest rates, higher inflation and we are all then worse off and less wealthy with no positive effect on the environment.
Also, as mentioned above, oil prices are at all time highs, so why not let the market get on with finding alternatives to make all our lives better.
Politicians and govts only ever cause problems, never fix them.
