I seem to see it everywhere, everyone is talking about it "Are you a member?", "have you been there?"
I dont even know what it is
Why are people sending me emails to join it? I get a couple a week, I often don't even know these people, though some I do...
I have asked people in the past but no one has really given me a good explanation, what I often get is "You should check it out"
I'm not even sure I want to visit the website in case what ever has pulled all those addicts in drags me under head 1st
Facebook what are you? Are you just some current fad? Are you the new popular Myspace?
What are you?...*
I'm sure there is some "hip up with the times" Vorbers here who can detail me what this phenomenon is?

I wish I could, but I am so unhip that no one is even emailing me to join said Facebook - let alone me trying to work out what it is.

A myspace style thing originally based on college/universities affiliation. Probably a way a market research company are mining information about the demographic.

Facebook = myspace, except for silly tertiary student 20-somethings rather than silly highschool student teenagers.

I actually do have a facebook account now. A friend said I needed one, and set it up for me just yesterday... And then happily proclaimed "Now we can keep in touch a lot better!", even though we were sitting next to each other at the time and spend 20+ hours a week together in classes. But whatever.

If a male friend attempted to set me up an internet-friend-sharing profile, I'd kick his esra

I have a facebook profile. Originally signed up to keep in touch with some friends in the States I met on conference. Now heaps of my friends at Otago Uni are signed up so it's a great way to keep in touch with them

It's kinda like oldfriends.co.nz but you can put much more on a profile but only friends you've added can see anything - which isn't like myspace I think?
It's an easy way to see friends' photos etc...

Yeah it's really cool, yeah right . You can post photos and send people virtual flowers, buy people virtual drinks. Virtually bite people and turn them into virtual zombies.
I think it's a crock of tihs. It's such a time waster and there isn't even a forum type format where you can discuss things.
I had a look after my GF said it was the greatest thing ever, but I decided not to join up. I already have an online persona and if I create another I might get virtual split personalities. Where I would find a virtual shrink to help me come to terms with this also bothers me.
