Am i missing something? or is this the hardest mechanical operation i have ever endeavored to execute?

The curvng of the cable round the red circle is immensely hard without fraying your cable so far down it renders it useless? Im really ssiped off, 3 cables down and still none in the shifter. Please help. Angry

Edit: If anyone says "shimano FTW" or "should have bought shimano" you will be shot.

yep, just helps in fraying it further. The corner that the cable needs to get around is at such an acute angle it makes it extremely hard to get the cable round.

then you are doing something wrong, I've replaced mine a few times and only ever had issues once, and then it took a couple of pokes, no idea how you are fraying them

take it to a bike shop....

Have you shifted the mechanism all the way back?

It's a delicate, frustrating procedure. Esp considering the X.7 is so much more logical despite having inferior shifting ability. If I remember, shift right down, undo the screw on the bottom of the unit, holding it together coz it has a tendency to fall apart, and feed it carefully thru the loop in the spindle. Alternatively give it to ya local and it'll take 2 mins
