Toyotas (I believe) tend to be pretty low spec'd for the money you pay for them. Mum bought a brand new Yaris in 2005 and that didn't have any flashy stuff at all. But they're low maintenance and reliable.

On the flip side Mitsis come with EVERYTHING and then require work every 5 seconds.

Nissan is like the middle ground. Just a shame about this one!

Sorry to hear about this you guys.

If its any help, and Im sure it wont be, there is a good reason why I NEVER EVER buy japanese imported cars. As you know I work in the industry, and have spoken to enough people I trust that speak openly about that which must never be spoken. Namely, the clandestine alteration of odometer readings.

Lots of people reading this will get their necks bent out of shape but Im telling you it is rife, and while I dont know any specifics about what the issues have been with your car its a good bet they are issues that might be considered more common on the car if it had done 3 or 4 times more than the actual mileage its showing.

It is a shame about your's, I have had one for the last 18months, only had 1 minor prob a week after getting it, sorted by the dealer and has run perfectly for the last 24,000kms, got 119,000 on it now and such a nice car to drive.
Shame the sat nav only works in Japan.
Unofficially named mine the tardis due to the amount of stuff I have managed to cram into it at times, bummer about the "ding" in my headliner at the back due to cramming the MTB in ontop of too much other stuff.....

Your right about the mitsi's, had a couple as work cars and if it wasn't for the factory recalls they would just break down, bits fall off etc
At least they were better than the Huyandai....
The Nissan's and Toyota's were the only things that never went wrong.

hmmmm, looks like a toyota corolla is on the cards too, can get an NZ new manual for a bit more than we payed for the nissan.... convincing the Briiii is going to be the hard part tho.

Corolla wagon? test drive first - unless its the 'hot' engine one (which from memory were import only) - their handling will grow tiresome very quickly. A rolla wagon was on our list of possibles not too long ago, till we drove one :(

Yeh I drove one a few times. I thought it was a gutless 1300 and was rather surprised when I found out it was a 1600.

I had a cheapo 1800 2wd Caldina which seemed like a rocketship compared to the corolla.

Focus big enough?

can't go wrong with the 6 though

I'd seriously drive a rolla before putting it on the list. Once they were the market leader, now they handle like a drunk elephant on roller skates. Pretty cheap interior as well. We were looking at the yamaha engined model with bilstein suspension - it made it into average.

keep your eye out for a mazda 6.
