Did a Quarter Bays on Monday - glorious weather! Started with the lunch bunch, slipped on some wet paint, then stopped to tighted the seat. Just rode with James after that. A good tempo pace (30kph) and generous conversation.

Simonius_Titius wrote:Foldism is huge in Japan, they have been doing origami to bicycles for yonks. As well as a wide range of sensible bikes they have boutique exotic models full of Japaneseness.

Some of them have teeny weeny wheels which might not be so hot on NZ roads. :butbut:

Do you write for NEXT? The current issue devotes the second-to-last page to folding bikes ("The Next Big Thing", apparently). Could hardly believe my eyes. And they use the phrase 'bicycle origami'.

It's actually a very well written piece.

Glad to hear that you're still enjoying it. I still get a kick out of watching people coming out of our office building and deconstructing the origami for the ride home in the evenings.
I hope the initiative catches on over in Wellie - It's good for everybody.

According to a Metro owner I saw at the train station, the bike has a few parts that aren't exactly robust, but he was still enjoying. $150 is hard to argue with, but there's a bunch of steel in the component mix. If your commute involves hills or sea spray, I'd fork out some real money for a bike that will still be a pleasure to ride in a couple of years.

Interesting that you can pay anything from $150 to $4000 for a folding bike - seems like a massive range, but then have a look at MTBs or road bikes (not that I've seen any titanium or carbon folders, yet).

Why didn't they edit him out?! Sounded like he had ear plugs stuck up his nose.

Apart from that, it was nice and positive.
