Everesting For Charity - Add To The Crippling Pressure!

Postby AgrAde on Sun 24th Feb 8:15am

I've got all month to climb the equivalent height of Everest, but instead I'm going to try to do it in one go. It's probably best not to publicise an everesting attempt much in case of failure but I'm doing the exact opposite because I'm an idiot.

It's raising money for the Himalayan Trust, which Sir Ed founded a while back and helps with healthcare, safe water, hygiene, education, and earthquake recovery.

They're worth donating to on their own merit, but now you get to also add to the stupid amount of pressure I've put myself under by saying I'm going to do this challenge in a day. The Summit Challenge runs for the month of March, and tracks your vertical ascent over that time.
I'll be starting at around 2AM on the first of March. My goal is to be done by nightfall on the first day of the challenge. Everest is just under 9km high, so I'll be biking up one of the bigger climbs on Christchurch's Port Hills 21 times. It's going to suck.

Here's my page:

Donate! Or not. It'd be cool though. Or donate to someone else. Who am I do tell you what to do?

Got it done. Went well enough. Legs a bit sore today but nothing too bad. Bum's fine. Need a new goal now I guess but it's not going to involve the road bike this time

Yeah, pretty cool. Now that I know what it entails I might be up for something like that next year. Hopefully not haha.

Thanks man. In terms of difficulty it was about exactly what I thought it would be. Due to a bit of stress though I struggled more than I expected. Interesting experience.
