Eskdale Mtb Park Is Closed

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL MOUNTAIN BIKERS & RUNNERS - Immediate Release

:: ESKDALE MTB PARK IS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Due to the current wet conditions, the Logging crew are staying down on the flats & are currently making their way thru the Waipunga block (for production thinning). With logging activities still going on in the Tait block, the safest & easiest solution for all from Pan Pac Forests Ltd, is to close the entire forest to all recreational users as of immediately (Monday 18 January, 2010).

It could be a couple of weeks before anything is opened up to the HBMTBC members.
Please pass this message onto everyone who rides or runs at Eskdale.

We still have Aropaoanui DH Park & Pukeora Hill MTB Park to go and ride at in the HB, (which require temp permits for visitors to access).

:: (Update) Notice from Pan Pac Forests
Please note that Eskdale MTB Park is STILL CLOSED to all riders and runners.

As you will be aware, we are very privileged to have access into the Pan Pac owned forest at Eskdale for our sport of mountain biking.
This mountain bike park has become one of the most well used recreational areas in Hawke’s Bay, even though it is on private land. We are very lucky that we normally have access 24 / 7, and we are able to build tracks nearly anywhere in the park. The HBMTBC are very grateful to Pan Pac for allowing us to use this piece of land. There are very few landowners as generous as this in New Zealand.

However, the recent thinning work in the Park has unfortunately been affected by the huge amount of rain we have experienced.

Pan Pac are very aware that you will be missing mountain biking in the Park, and are keen to get access as soon as possible. They appreciate your co-operation and understanding while they complete the production thinning. With this in mind, they have issued this statement:

“Pan Pac, like club members, doesn’t want the Pan Pac Eskdale Mountain Bike Park closed any longer than it has to be. We never wanted to close it. Our plan was to keep at least half of the Park open. Unfortunately, the wet weather has affected our planning. The rain has meant that the loggers have had less flexibility about where they can work. It is unfortunate that the Tait’s road end, which was close to being finished, couldn’t be completed. The crew had to move to the flatter areas in the Waipunga Road end to keep them working. No one thought the rain would be so persistent. With logging trucks, felling machinery, and lots of wood on the ground, the entire area is not safe to enter. Accidents happen so easily and our number one priority has to be safety. Some of our staff that are avid riders are just as keen as anyone to get back riding. We will open it up as soon as we can. We unfortunately can’t give a date. We appreciate the inconvenience we are causing. Please be patient.”

PLEASE NOTE, If any of you are caught within the Park while it is closed you will be prosecuted.
It is just not safe and the logging crew is moving very widely at the moment to try and maintain production.
More news will be issued when it becomes available. Thank you for your understanding.
