If by cultural diversity you refer to pissed out munters I dont think the closure of espressoholic will alter that

Most cafes, except for the ones in Palmerston North... The only cafe that'll do a decent sized bowl here is stupidly overpriced and way too crowded :(

Really?, I'm not much of a "bowl" drinker (I'm a short black drinker) but as I re-call that many of the spots I used to frequent did bowls

but let me guess, like most students you love Cafe Cuba??

Actually I know the dude who manages stagedoor now. I haven't been in during his reign though, so I should probably go give it a try.

At Moxie the bowl I had was just a normal coffee with another cup or so of milk dumped on it :(. Of course I certainly haven't been to every cafe in town, but I've done most of the CBD and generally they aren't too flash. I need to try moar cafes... Trouble is so many of the people I know only want to go to Cuba :(

Elm cafe has some damned nice food, but I haven't actually had a coffee there - that's another on my to-do list.

Coffee is good (at Elm), Anna and I.J. wouldn't do anything less (but then I am biased as I used to work with them) and yes the food is great

But then I was such a creature of habit, I drunk waaaaaaaaay to much coffee at Barista

I've never gone to Espressoholic that often but it was still a good spot to go after a movie or show or to drop by late at night for a coffee. I will miss their killer carrot cake. :(

Meh the place hadn't changed in nearly 2 decades, and even in the early nineties it was a half arsed attempt to recreate the Willis St venue which was genuinely a funky place.

And latte bowls?!? Why does good coffee need to be diluted by a pint of milk? Surely they should've gone the way of David Banes Cardies?

If Midnights ever goes I will mourn but espressaholic?

Midnights is IMO the most overhyped. Sometimes you get good coffee in there but sometimes its bloody awful, and don't get me started on the service....

their service changed a while ago from being really snotty and useless to being actually quite good and responsive most of the time. and the food is really good.

service in general in cafes is vaguely bad or patchy, which is what you get with any poorly paid pool of predominantly temporary workers.

the atmosphere in midnight is what i go there for, as with most cafes that's the deciding factor (eg lido sucks plastic fake scrotum)

In my defence everything in Palmerston North is about 7 to 15 years behind the times....... So things like latte bowls and mullets are still the height of style here. Next month the fad is going to be chatter rings :)
