Hi,
After some good races in recent weeks World overall speedskating champion Nicole Begg is likely to contest the Elite Nationals Road race in her tight schedule of events.
With 2 World Individual Titles & 15 world medals & last 4 years overall World senior champion & this year both track & road, the very versitile Nicole is likely to test the water, in some higher level cycle races, amongst her skating committements.
She will race the South Canterbury Criteriums & xmas new year period road race, drive to Palmerston North & compete in all 6 road events & 5 indoor track events. Unbeaten in N.Z. champs over all distances in the last 5 years, she will finish the 1,500 track event around 8 pm on the Friday evening in Palmerston North & fly to Christchurch for the noon Saturday race, a very tight scedule.
With the new Olympic track event over 5 distances, she may be tempted to look at this future option.
As one who pushes a big gear for a small person Top South Canterbury cycling coach Colin Ryan has always been keen to get her to try the 3,000 pursuit, but points type races have been her forte in the skating at Worlds & without team mates, along with the 1,000 meters & the Marathon. With World track medals over all distances 300T/T, 500, 1,000, 10,000 points / Elimination & 15,000 Elimination, an allround event holds appeal.
