people have a funny attitude to risk exposure - worrying about the 'if I'd been there half an hour later', yet do you ever stop to wonder how much risk you're in going across the screes riding the edge up craigieburn?

indeed - heaps of fun, but you're exposed to rock fall whilst doing it (none of those nice big chunks rolled uphill ;) )

Pretty grunty in central Welly.
Spooky but safe, hope those further south are OK.

Was big out here on the Kapiti Coast. Routine for us is throw kids in car and drive up towards the railway tracks till they say if there is any tsunami risk. We live 100m from the beach and the wife has a less of let's wait and see attitude than us Kiwis. The family we were parked next to up the hill were North American too.

Smashed my knee when I fell in the shaking and the water cooler toppled and split a full bottle. Get an earthquake day off while two kids go to school and one stays home.

Soz everyone. It was probably my fault. I thought, after 6 years and being in a rebuilt house, that it would be safe to hang some stuff back up on the walls

Hope everyone is okay. News seems to be reporting a fair bit of disruption in Wellington.

Disruption yes - my work is reporting "disrupted furniture" and superficial damage (I guess plaster and concrete dust like last time).

And disruption of sleep was most annoying. :hmmm:

The rude-ass tsunami sirens were pretty tooty all last night. Evac'ed at 2am and let back in to the suburb at 8am. Quite tired. Ah well, the work must go on.

And I read that arsehole burglars took advantage of empty seaside suburbs. In some ways it's too bad the tsunami didn't surge in and get the fuckers - that would be 'divine' justice... Aside, obviously, from all the other side effects of a wave.

I couldn't believe how long the shaking lasted. Wasn't violent like Sept 4th, but so so much longer lasting

fuck that is scum, it is a pity tougher penalties do not stop people from committing crimes otherwise this is a place i would be in favor of it. hope the cops pull out all the stops to catch them.
