So much Drive-By-Truckers on my hard drive which was not paid for, how the hell did they ever make any money :D

As a flipside to the "you must reward the artists" arguement, there is a shitload of music which I have been made aware of through file sharing (not p2p, just borrowing/stealing stuff from mates hard drives etc) which I have then gone on to purchase future albums attend gigs of etc. Had I not been made aware of them initially, they would've got zip from me.

Hell there are even some albums which I've gone and bought my own copy after enjoying a virtual copy so much.

true dat.

DBT's Mike Cooley said in an interview words to the effect of "Well, we can't control file sharing or whatever, so its a loss leader for us: if a kid likes a copy of our record, then hopefully they'll buy a T shirt, and come to a show or two".

thats how bands make money now, touring and t shirts. I own a LOT of t shirts.

How long would it take to listen to 35,000 songs??

scratch that... at average 3.5mins each, thats 85 days...

Yeah that is not including vinyl... what with a lack of record playing app...

I will often download mp3 versions of albums I buy on vinyl... im soooo trendy.

a lot of the time if you buy off an artists website, you get the package (hur hur) of vinyl record, a card for a legit download of that album, and a t shirt. even including shipping, that will usually run at $50NZD now the exchange rate is good. Why wouldn't you?

iTunes gives a 90 second song preview and will run through a whole album.
Thats like six times the average teenagers attention span nowadays.
No need to buy.
