Maybe give designing your own a go? Then get an engineering place to build it for you.

Okay Update : Stacy Kohut has contacted me to let me know that him and his business partner make these bikes. They're called 'FourCross' and they kick ass as far as I can see!!

Im in talks now with my case manager about them paying for it, I had to write a small proposal and thougth I would post it on here let me know what you think!! Will send it on Monday so any idea feedback appreciated!!!

Why Mountain biking is More important than other sports?

The reason why Mountain biking is so important above other sports is because it’s something I have done for a very long time. Ever since I was kid I’ve always ridden bikes. Mountain biking is far more important to me as I have an individual pursuits frame of mind I’ve done team sports but by far my skills and experience are within individual sports I have excelled in these sports in the past. Mountain biking also allows me to be social with others that enjoy individual sports and the similar frame of mind. Another reason why mountain biking is important to me is the fact that I get to spend time outdoors in forest areas, the sound of nothing but your bike and the wind. I find this helps in cleansing my mind and I therefore allow myself to forget about any negative thoughts.

Amount of time used to do it/ how often?

The amount of time I would be using this four-cross bike would be at least 2-3hrs a day up to 5 days a week. My entire friends mountain bike and there is always someone who wants to go for a ride. If I decided I enjoyed it so much and would like to progress onto racing and competing against other wheelchair users, I’m sure I could use this bike all day everyday if that’s what it will take to ride for NZ.

Number of friends involved?

As stated previously I have many friends that ride bikes nearly every day of the week. At all times riding, there would be at least one other person and up to 4-5 people at other differing times. I would really like to travel around NZ riding in Mountain bike events and start promoting this amazing four-cross mountain bike which would mean a lot more friends will become involved.

Social / emotional impact of not being able to do it…

I think socially if I’m un-able to participate in this activity my chances of meeting a wider range of individuals with similar interests will be cut. I know from other experiences when you stop doing a sport or activity that your friends do, you end up losing those friends. As I’ve become so passionate about bikes it would be really difficult for me to deal with the fact I couldn’t go out in forests and have fun with my friends again. It’s difficult enough to be sitting here not able to simply go and enjoy forest and bush areas because of obvious access issues. So to know that there’s a four-cross bike available for me to maintain previous activities and then to have this denied would really impact on me psychologically.

Would the four-cross be able to be used on tracks in Wellington?

There are numerous tracks around Wellington which would be suitable for me to ride. Makara Park Karori; 2-3 tracks available. Long Gulley Brooklyn; 3-4 tracks available. Pylon 42 Wainuiamata; 1-2 tracks available, Levin; 1 track available. Cannon Point and St Pat’s 1 track available.

How do you get to the top of the hill first?

How I intend to get to the tops of tracks depends where the track is. A lot of tracks have access directly at the top of each run. So getting in the first place won’t be so much of an issue. Once I’ve done a run getting back up to the top will require a friend to help me push back up or if that’s impossible my cousin who also mountain bikes has a four wheel drive and trailer that can be arranged to meet me at the bottom and take me back up to the top. This type of riding is quite common in mountain biking and is referred to as ‘car dropping’.

How would you transport the four-cross?
Will you need a trailer does your car have a tow bar?

In terms of transporting the four cross, I have a station wagon and I’m pretty sure it would fit in with the wheels taken off. However, in saying that I wouldn’t be riding a lone at any one time so there would always be someone such as my cousin round to help transport. As stated above he has specific vehicles which can help. I will be getting a tow bar put on my car soon so if I needed to I could tow a trailer with the four-cross onboard.

What other equipment will be needed?

Other equipment which will be needed include: Full face Helmet, Goggles, Chest and Back armour, full fingered gloves, Shin pads and tough supportive shoes.
