After a couple of months out of the water, today saw the return of the good weather/surfable surf/daytime/weekend combination.

And for the first time ever, I did it. I stood up on the board, for a period of time that was long enough for me to claim that I was in control!

Hell yeah, definitely shot back out as fast as I could for another!
Everyone I've talked to says that once you've been up once it kind of clicks and you never look back.
I did catch another couple too - and then performed an impressive nose dive to smashage as well Rung my bell a bit and I left it at that - hopefully next time I will I will carry on where I left off (not with the nose diving part!).

I gave up surfing a few years back when I shot down to main beach (as a really inexperienced whitewash warrior), in the aftermath of a hurricane out near Tonga somewhere, with offshore winds and a 3m swell the place was packed. I jumped on next to Leisure Island (where all the otehrs were churning on out), put my head down and started paddling, before I knew it was almost out at the end of Leisure island, obviously in some heinous rip, and buried myself for 10 minutes trying to get out the side, but just getting pushed further and further out.
By the time the IRB got me to the beach I was ready to sell my kit.
