Diamond In The Rough: Verts Old Stumpie

Postby air_ben on Wed 20/Jun/12 9:42pm

...but can anyone get more dirt on it than that? Extra points on ID'ing the forks.
Used to be owned by vert, I understand he got the custom paint job done.

(Ignore the grey steel bar - it's a kids seat attachment)

It's damn light (without the kids seat attachment) but the frame dimensions are too large. The top tube is way too long for little old me. It gives me back pain riding to work (and then a solid 8 of slouching - harsh!)

Wouldn't mind swapping with a rigid / commuter... Otherwise it goes to the tards.

Manitou SX forks.

Twin piston damping, grease ports on the back. The flash ones had a carbon fibre arch across the top.

Thorg never owned that bike.

I remember that bike had it years and years ago (was one of my 1st) got it custom painted by Ross Bee - he did an awesome job. Good to see the bike is still looking good :)

Update: I've been riding it into work this week and it's not that bad at all.

I suspect my epic posture applies to riding as well, I can imagine the back pain was probably slumping while trying to haul arse up mt. albert...
Maybe that explains the way I land on my head too - Once a plonker, always a plonker.

Nothing to see here, move on. I think I'll hold it for a bit and sort out the appalling cracked(?) seat and see how that goes

Wailing and gnashing of teeth (new 'moticon needed!) - my slice of history has been stolen!
People got any guesses about 'market value'?

Vert: Any guesses as to its true age?

Doubtful AMI will see it as a 'classic' - I'm probably having to fall back on 'market value', and trying to find out what that may be. Pity really, the current stumpjumpers are something else!
