Hi Everyone
Less than 1 week to go :D
Unfortunately the XC component of the event has been cancelled due to storm damage :( all those entered will be refunded. This means it's all about the DH ! Full press release below :

maintaining speed, making all the jumps, cranking the berms and having a good time will be the focus of the riders taking part in the Leatt Crank Taupo Mountain Bike event this Saturday 21 May.

The event is in year 2 and takes place on the North side of Mount Tauhara just 10 minutes from the Taupo township signposted off the Broadlands Road.

Shuttle buses take riders from the event base up to the top of the Downhill track where they launch into 2.5 minutes of intense MTB action.

The top part of the DH course features some native bush with some challenging log drops, roots plus a stump jump (over an old pine tree stump). Next riders enter what is called the Supercross section involving a small gap jump, followed by a table top, small double and then another table top onto a road. Riders then take on the pine tree section involving a wooden ramp to 5 metre gap jump, then the very steep triple switch back section. Another wooden ramp leads into the final farm land section with a rock garden, fence jump with 6 metre wooden ramp lead in, gravity canyon, to finish with 2 table tops.

The event was to involve a Cross Country race and All Mountain Competition, however the severe winds in Taupo over the last few weeks have caused hundreds of trees to fall all over the XC track. So the Cross Country and All Mountain events have been cancelled as of today – Monday 16 May 2011. All riders who have entered these events will be refunded. Epic Events apologises for any inconvenience.

Crank starts at 9am with Downhill finals from 3- 3:30pm. Admission is free to the public who are encouraged to go out and check out all the action. Spectators should get in around mid day to walk up the hill to find their favourite piece of action. Crank features food, coffee and DJ mixed music.
