It was hilarious, one minute shirt, sunnies and calm weather. Pick up a box from a client and come back onto the street to gales with horizontal rain. Guys on the RT talking about trees getting blown over/dismembered all over the region.

I watched as the cherry blossom tree in our garden went in seconds from gently fluttering in the breeze to whipping violently back and forth - 5 minutes later I was driving down Adelaide Rd in driving rain with lightning and thunder, fire engines going the other way and trees falling on the road! It was like the Apocalypse! Another branch actually landed on my roof as I parked up outside Burger Wisconsin in Northland!

Trees down + power lines down = couldn't get home! Finally home about 11.00, power back on sometime after 3.00am

Had a friend who was on the Interislander...had almost docked and got blown back out, had to be dragged in by tugs.
I was driving up Maungaraki and stopped to take a couple of pics.

The Stuff article says that some guy was pushing his bike along in Lyall Bay and it got picked up and blown over the wall.

I know a couple of (actually) experienced yachties out on the corporate who found the sudden change in conditions more than they wanted to cope with. More than a few of the crews needed assistance so I don't think Wuffy's P Class chops would have cut it.

Yup I got caught in it, and blown off my bike. And rescued by a nice police man

Possibly the most scared I've been on a bike, seeing lightening in the sky in front of me, wheel spin riding into the huge gusts of wind and getting swept from side to side in the wind. Wish It had come a bit earlier so I wasn't ON the bike when it did hit...
