Am waiting to hear back from someone on the condition of the roads up at Cust, Summerhill and down to Loburn. As yet haven't heard back.. I did ride the other roads on Sunday and all were good.

from what i heard from a friend who lives at Summerhill, they barely even felt the quake, it woke them up but they went back to sleep. he said it was the wind on saturday and sunday that did all the damage, demolishing a couple of sheds and roofs... so, if they barely felt it i'd say the roads wouldnt be bad.

BMH Tour Round 5 has been abandoned. A decision regarding the support race will be made this evening.
Keep the feedback coming in because things are changing every minute with fresh aftershocks, and some temporary repairs being undertaken. We need as much data as we can to assess what races can be safely managed or not in the coming weeks.

The Press shows SH75 closed around the Little River area - also have anecdotal that the bridge on SH75 at Kaituna Valley might have lifted. Any hardy souls been out this far since the weekend :ib:

Not quite what I had in mind !!

A DH rig would have been better to get over the little bridge on Saby's Rd - there's about a half-metre ramp in the middle. Rest of Ellemere Rd OK - a few cracks but thats all. Scouting out possible alternative TT courses. Ellesmere Rd from Robinsons Rd to Lincoln-Taipapu Rd looks good - about 6km long, almost long enough, and undamaged.

Did Long Bays in the drizzle this morning - on the road when the nasty aftershock hit so didn't feel it.

As others have noted the first bit of old Tai Tapu is a bit of a mess - half road slumped into river near Rosendale and at the end of the second straight there is a short section with a lot of cracks running across the road, with quite a bit of silt, and very bumpy - will need some careful thought re what to do with the TT's this season.

The rest of the ride was basically ok - as someone said quite a bit of stuff has fallen off banks onto the side of the road but nothing major. Quite a few cracks but most minor, and some slumping around the edges of the road in places. Also at Allandale there is quite a bit of damage on the road so no flying start for the hill! Lyttleton was ok cycling wise, but obviously some buildings in a bad state, including one built for my great-grandfather's business which had some big cracks and I suspect will sadly have to come down. Evans was really busy as the tunnel was closed, but no problems there either, and we came back through town via Ferry rd and the one-way street system past the hospital.

Agree, Old Tai Tapu Road won't be ready for TT for some time yet, I'm thinking. Ellesmere Road is a very busy and fast road though. I would be looking at something like Chattertons Road on McLeans Island (TT's used to be run here). Don't know the condition at present, though.

Chattertons Rd fine - been down there today. Only hazard at this stage would be the magpies. Although I didn't get swooped they were all lined up ready and waiting :sneaky:
