From what I understand, the bike will fit, but the wheels will require the tyres being removed so they can fit in the wheel pockets. Then the tyres just become spacers/padding for packing with.

Is anyone else out there snapping chains like me? I just about to fit my 14th in 28 months.

I've tried XT, XTR, SRAM 961, 971 and 991 plus a kmc cheapy for good measure.

edit: and yes I do clean and lube after every ride.

Possibly shifting technique, too much cross chain riding, I presume this is a geared bike not an SS?

Where are they snapping? It sound like you've either got a technique / frame issue, or you've not fitting the chains correctly.

Broke a few on my SS Karate Monkey. Of course, I am a fat arse with pretty powerful legs so that is to be expected. Grange at Cycle Addiction tells me that they used to break chains on the SSrs quite a bit until moving to 1/8 pitch - a little heavier, but worth it in reliability.

Well, I'll admit to the odd graunchy shift - but don't we all? I think I might have broken one chain in the whole time I was riding 26" so in my mind it does seem to be since I moved to 29er.

Probably the most common FAIL is pulling a pin straight out at the start of a pinch climb - with the chain then flying off onto the track.

It sounds like something is amiss, but just what is hard. The "pin" popping out - is it the joining pin, or are you using quick links?

Chain to short ?
Full suspension bike.

Type of bike and gear set up would be handy to know. There is no reason a 29er would snap chains more then a 26". It will come down to bike set up or riding style.

Chains don't just break on their own. Gotta be poor set-up or technique. Shifting under load isn't healthy (from what I remember from riding geared bikes back in the day).
And for the record 1/8" chains aren't any stronger than 3/32". Just wider rollers that allow more area on the teeth to spread the load out on.

I've never broken a chain on a SS and that's 8 years of hard riding. I've sure worn out a sh*t load though.
