Hi am after some more of youre peoples wealthy knowledge, i am going to replace the rear cassette on my gf hifi 29er but am unsure if to get a 36 or a 34 tooth cassette, on my 26" i used to use my middle chain ring on front and 34,30 tooth on rear for all steep hill climbs. so 95% of my riding is done in middle chain ring since 29ers have a bigger turning radius i think i should go for a 36 am i correct? or should i just stick with the 34?

Marleens have them in stock right now, I believe. I got the folding one. It's awesome.

I'm actually thinking about trying some Fulcrum XLR's - the Flows on my bike, though butty and beautiful, night be a little too butty for me. I popped a sweet MRP 34T on tonight too, mated to the White Ind 19.

The look to be good, and are UST/tubeless without rim tape. But don't be fooled by the references to 20mm front axle - this is part of the hub - they are not 20mm through axle (or QR15) compatible.

Oh, yeah - sorry for teaching you to suck eggs too.

I got a set for a customers build, certainly very nice looking and it was nice to be able to set them up tubeless without tape. That said they weren't as light as I had imagined they might have been and they took a bit of effort to get the (non UST) tyres to bead up and seal. In the final analysis I concluded that for about the same sort of money Stans hubs and Crests would probably be lighter and not really that much harder to set up. That said I've found the hubs on the cheaper Fulcrum SL's to be super reliable and I'm not sure yet what the verdict is on the Stans hubs in terms of durability. Food for thought...

Personally I reckon if you have a 36 tooth you'll use it ie you use what you have - great for long climbs ie Karapoti and for staying in middle chain ring. Also the 36 tooth is only available in SLX (I could be wrong here) so if you are after weight reduction it won't be an alternative.

The 12-36 is a CS-HG61, effectively Deore level with no alloy spider, and hence it's not light. If you believe the rumors there are going to be a whole heap of 36 tooth options available next year, but unfortunately as part of 10 speed cassettes. As far as I am aware there are no plans for lighter (ie XT level) 12-36 9 speed cassettes. I haven't tried the Deore cassette because all my wheels have alloy freehub bodies so they won't play nice with it, but my customers who do have the 12-36 on their 29ers all seem to like the gear range it gives them. For Shayler it comes down to deciding if having the ability to climb more in the middle ring is worth the weight of the heavy cassette.

I think that has more to do with providing a miniature model for press use. Since when has a race bike looked like it's setup for DH? Bars are far too high. Bring out the negative rise stems

I saw one of the Giant 29er's in the flesh earlier today, and must say, they're heaps less ugly than I thought (though this was an L or XL frame).

Great speed upgrade for your 29ers.Light fast and surprisngly grippy (no this is not a sponsored plug..... I bought my tyres).

RusSs's's's's XTC 29er wasn't ugly. You certainly notice that its got bigger wheels, but with the more 29ers I see the less I notice the big wheels.
