much you want to spend?

If I was going to do that myself I would go for

XO Carbon shifters
XO Rear Derailleur
Fulcrum Red Metal 29 XLR UST Disc Wheels
Maxxis Aspen Tyres
Formula R1 Brakes

That would make a bit of an improvement and would work with my fat arse and my budget. If I was going to blow the budget totally, maybe some custom wheels, XX Groupset and FSA K-Force Crankset.

Then again, if I was going to spend all that coin I would probably go for a Superfly Carbon.

if it was my bike

XT Cassette
Replace the crankset with a lighter one (I'd buy FSA, but I'm biased)

After that I'd be looking at getting new wheels, my thoughts;

Hope Pro II hubs on Stans 355 29er rims, or maybe a set of the Stans ZTR hubs on the same 355 29er rims

oh and with the bar, make sure that it isn't fully swept back, a flat bar with a large sweep is meat to be rolled up so that the bar has a position like a riser bar (With back sweep and up-sweep

In terms of weight for $ the places I'd look are:
Cranks - those OEM cranks are pretty heavy
Bars/seatposts/grips/Tyres can be cheap wt loss (I'm not familar with bontrager gear)
Wheels - would make a huge difference but will obviously be a decent amount of coin. As pbr said Hope/Stans would be my pick.

Shifters/der as Russ mentioned are typically the worst place to lose wt for the money.

Is that in nz? the pro2s alone at rrp would be close to that figure

That wasn't a 'per wheel' price you were quoted BigJIMMY?

Nah - talking about the guy at the shop. I won't name the place, but I was quoted a single wheel price for a set of Crossmax wheels a couple years ago.
