Hey!

I'm considering turning my old steel roadie (Peugeot Vanois) into a cyclocrosser/29er of sorts, only cos I don't want to get rid of the old tart and she's lying around getting abused for being in the way just right now :D

Cheers for that, Slim

You can use SIDs if you are using Cross tyres, the 29x2.0's on my bike just wouldn't fit.

Interesting article Kah. It will be interesting to see what the final decision is.

They couldn't have picked a nicer bike to do the test on, a seven IMX (titanium carbon frame) is possibly the most drool worthy xc frame in existance.

Ahoy, my new bike. Curtlo 29er

Anyone have any ideas on gearing. I want it to be roughly equivent to a 32:16 on a normal bike.

My Raleigh came standard with 32/20. Which was just slightly lower (easier to pedal) than the 33/18 on my 26" bike. Use Sheldon browns website for gearing calculations to take into account wheel size.
But Im assuming you would be looking at 32/18, or 34/20, somewhere around there.

I run mine at 33:16 and it's pretty mint but the top end speed is a little limited

Sweet looking stead though

Oh yeah, Truvativ do a 33t aluminium 4-bolt chainring if that helps achieve the ratio you are after Nick

I'll try the 32:17 I currently have on the bike, but sounds like it might be a bit big then.

Planning on using it to commute to work with a bit of singletrack on the way home.

Just waiting on a couple of little bits to finish it off.
