Question for the guru's out there
about Crank arm length....
on my 29er do I want to go for longer cranks?
on just about all my bikes I have 175mm cranks, do I want to go for a shorter or longer length?
any advice appreciated

I looked at that guy Willets site and he had built a 29er for a woman 5 ft 2 inches tall.

I am 5 seven and ride a small sir9...among other things.I am borderline for riding a 9er, The one thing that I struggle with the most is getting my setup ( bar drop to suit my racer boi styles) to match that of my 26"er. I have a bit of a magic triangle of dimensions that I try to apply to most of my bikes.

I dont know enough about crank length to comment.

What frame is that?

One9 - the front end still feels a little heavy. Waiting on some carbons so should balance it out

That frame looks real nice, I want it haha

Is there a sort of height game to play with big wheels? like if our short will it be hard to ride one?

Im 5'9" and been riding a Raleigh XXIX in Medium. Im sure there are shorter people than me that could comment also.

Yup, ride the same bike and I'm 5'7.

When I get mine sorted it will be SS or gearable as well, but EBB, rather than horizontal or Adjustable

Nice choice with the Juice and F29's

EBB FTW!

no faffing about with brakes when adjusting chain tension or changing gear ratio

I'm not a fan of EBB's... heavy, sometimes noisy, and they do tend to walk a little, requiring more manitenance.

The Paragon sliders achieve all the benefits, are light and betterer.

What did you think of the EBB that came in the El Toro that I sold you? It was set and forget for me.....

Have you had any experience with Phil Wood EBB's?

I've found a couple more wheel options
Bontrager Rhythm comp Tlr wheels
And the FSA XC290 wheels
Waiting to hear back on the Kore XCD II wheels

Not really into the cross max or the Shimano wheels,
I'm looking at something that preferably takes a standard spoke.

I found it prone to slipping slightly - it improved with some assembly paste.

One thing I'm curious about (and anal about) is the change in bb height / saddle offset with EBB's.

I know this might sound outlandish, but maybe you could build some wheels? Then you can use any spoke you want.

Can hardly believe all this whining about eccentrics! They've worked very well for tandems over the years which undoubtedly see more torsion. I've had no trouble at all with the one on my four year old GF Rig. Grease everything and get someone with a bit of muscle to do up the bolts.
As for the bb height/offset question: unless you're planning on making frequent and significant changes of your ratio, it won't matter at all. You can account for most of it with a bit of mathematics and those cleverly long seat rails.
Having my hands on a number of the ss beasties over the years, the last thing I want is one with horizontal drop outs. Too much fiddling with the freaking disc brakes evrey time you need to get at the wheel for something. Horizontals are for bikes with V Brakes. Disc brakes and ss need verticals! No wheel/rotor alignment issues and no axle slip!

I've had no problems with the EBB on my Niner.
Horizontal drop outs are pretty lame, sliding or pivoting/swinging dropouts are better, if you don't mind changing your chainstay length....

Bob you should run hadley hubs with wheelsmith spokes and sun equaliser rims.

The new ones are available with no V mounts IIRC... according to some of the folk on MTBR (So it must be true)
