Is it racism, or a celebration of our diversity? I enjoyed it... didn't think of it as being racist, although it is much more palatable coming from the ethnic groups that the programme pokes fun at.

(It appears that the entire staff of TV3 are in on it!)

It's the same kind of angle that Billy T took - pointing out our differences and making humour with it. Something Mike King tries to do, but IMO does not pull off.

How can you be so suprised, when shows like "Skitz" that had a series of skits depicting a samoan family in a very unPC way were also on primetime - or that new political show on TV1 with the puppets and masks...

being PC has become excessive, IMO.
so have safety precautions. stupid 90's. No desks have sharp corners, no airports have carpet the makes you all static so you can run round and give each other shocks. everything has a health warning.

Hehe I remember the Semesi's "We're all going on a, samoan holiday, no more working for a, year or two!"

That facelift show has some good bits, some of them arent great though, still worth watching

Nah not going for practise day, we were up there on sunday though and in all honesty it was better conditions at the winter champs...
HOWEVER, it had absolutely pissed down overnight and until about 10:30am, when the sun came out and a day of riding humpty was top-notch. I'm not sure what the weathers been like up there during the week but judging by sunday you're probably better off coming up for round 2.

also they've built this dirty bmx-style jump over the finish line, I heard it might be being made into a table which will be pretty good to be an animal on but if it stays how it is I might need some jumping practise

Yeah, I was. Enjoyed it very much, only after watching it am I thinking about it's un-pc-ness. And no I don't think it should be taken off TV or anything like that :hmmm:

I think the way they portrayed the different cultures, they managed to make fun of them, but without making people hate them. They're cute not bad?! :eh: :paranoid:

And yeah I remember Skitz :) spose that was kind of similar.

That stupid puppet show thing is TERRIBLE, the least funny "comedy" I've seen in a long time  absolutely pathetic

Anyone listening to National Radio this morning? They interviewed the BroTown producers, Linda Clark said something about "if I were to say some of those things... whereas if you say them..." then the producers all in unison said "Yeaaaaahhhhh?!"

I saw the one with the quiz in it, its some funny shit.
I don't find racism too much of a problem when i hear maori people saying rasists remarks to each other - "what a nigger" etc

Amen to that! I leave the room whenever shortland st comes on - pollution for the mind IMHO :)

Don't really watch TV so I missed Brotown but think i'll check it out next time - without seeing it yet, it seems totally harmless lighthearted fun - like Skitz was!

I dont watch tv, i watch programmes. Top gear, malcom in the middle, simpsons. Unlike my flatmates who just sit in front of the tv all day long regardless what else is on.

But yeah, i did most school in takapuna grammar and my flatmate did her school in south auckland so we were pissing ourselves laughing. The rest of the flat didnt really get it as much. Some funny shit. Hydroponics ea. Lol.

IMO your only racist if you pick on a particular culture or race, however if you pick on and make fun of all cultures, (as bro town did) then your just a bastard, and arn't we all bastards at some time or another.
