I get quite angry and involved with videogames, but have great delight in blowing people up on screen, the more splatter the better, it comes down to a matter of realism, in a movie that depicts real people and is sad or violent I have a different emotional connection where I will feel sad or angry or whatever over the content, than if it depicts zombie beasts of doom or simulated people on a computer game.

props. Billy T James did do it well - and many people can still recall a lot of his "james cook" skits if you ask them.
They were brilliant!!

While some of the language may be a little intense, it's still part of NZ culture and that's why NZlders find it funny. They recognise the stereotypes and appreciate the humour that's been attached to them.
I went to see "Naked Samoans" at the Downstage theatre a couple of months ago - it was the FUNNIEST show i think i've ever seen. I put it down to pacific islanders being able to laugh at themselves and make light of situations they may find themselves in.
In fact - think about it - most of the funniest people you know will more than likely make you laugh with stories about their own misfortune / stupidity.
just the nature of the game coupled with the gift of storytelling.

Yup, the type of emotional response we have to fictions depends on the authorial tone of the presentation. Think Brain Dead vs. Saving Private Ryan.

Maori's and Pacific Islanders aren't Niggers Pissy. But I understand the point you're trying to make.

It's funny because it's mocking stereotypes, however, and this is incredibly un-PC to say it, stereotypes usually have some truth... people will be laughing at them because they have the opinion that all Pacific Islanders are like the ones in the show.

I'd rather see them portrayed in a good light...

Movies or TV programs that set out to show a particular group in a good light and reinforce a positive stereotype are routinely shit. Think Shortland Street.
